1LT William Joshua Powell (USMA '13)
1LT William Joshua Powell, known as Josh by friends and family, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 after a hard fought battle with cancer. Josh was 27 years of age.
Josh was a linebacker on the Army Football team who helped secure their bowl Game victory in 2010. He loved his Country and cherished the West Point brotherhood. Josh earned his Ranger tab before joining A Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, KY.
Josh was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma two months after he met the love of his life, Fabi Calborn Powell. After getting the news that the cancer had spread, they decided to move their wedding date up and proceeded with the ceremony on November 12, 2016. Though their bonds of matrimony were cut short, Josh and Fabi loved enough for a lifetime. As his wife stated after Army's win over Navy just days before Josh took his final breath, "I think this guy may have had something to do with that W."
Proceeds from the 1LT William J. Powell bracelet will be donated to the Josh Powell Foundation.
