From Matthew’s obituary:
Matthew was raised in Los Altos, CA, and attended Los Altos High School. He was a triple letterman in Golf, Cross Country and Volleyball. Matthew participated in Scouting, beginning as a Cub Scout, and became an Eagle Scout at 14 years old with Troop 33. He was also an acolyte at Los Altos United Methodist Church.
He gained acceptance to the United States Naval Academy. Matthew was a Midshipman studying Computer Science. Matthew loved planes and flying, and his goal was to be commissioned as a Navy Pilot. Before his diagnosis, Matthew also became SCUBA qualified and skydived. His dream was to skydive on every continent.
He was a fan of the three-point shot in basketball, and he was able to attend the NBA Finals to watch his Golden State Warriors win its third Championship. Matthew is survived by his parents Michael E. Sears and Julie F. Sears.
