Their Story
Remembering James F McClamrock.
PFC James Fleet McClamrock — "Jamie" to those who loved him — was 22 years old, of Huntersville, North Carolina, and served with the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, the "Wolfhounds," of the 2nd Stryker Advise and Assist Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, out of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
Born in Columbia, South Carolina on November 17, 1987, Jamie grew up in the Statesville and Troutman area and graduated from South Iredell High School. In 2008 he married the love of his life, Shannah — a marriage he guarded so fiercely he wouldn't even show her photograph to the other soldiers, unwilling to share her with anyone. Together they looked forward to starting a family.
Before he ever wore the uniform, Jamie worked as a security screener for the TSA at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. Watching service members come and go through the terminal day after day, he felt a calling he couldn't set aside. A young man of deep faith — the son of a pastor and a lifelong member of his church — he prayed on it and enlisted, certain this was the path meant for him.
As he told his wife, "I really feel like this is what God wants me to do."
He gave himself to soldiering completely. Even home on leave, he refused to lose his edge: he would rise before dawn, shoulder a sixty-pound pack, and run ten miles to stay ready. He wanted to be on the front line. He wanted to make a difference. In Iraq, he served alongside the very soldiers he had helped to train.
Jamie was posthumously promoted to Private First Class. He is remembered by his wife, Shannah; his parents, Mark and Susan; his brothers, John, Barnes, and Harrison; his sisters, Kathryn and Caroline; and by a family, a church, and a community who carry his memory forward. We are honored to remember him.
